2 years ago we chose to register our station to become a licensed radio station. Even as 100’s of other online stations do not do this, our direction was clear. There have many times we have been tempted to cancel the monthly fee to save money, but today proved to us, one reason why licensing was a sound decision.
We received an email this morning from The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada. Apparently, Racman Christian Radio attracted their attention because we play music from that country. IF we had not chosen to pay for a license reporting company, we faced the possibility of paying huge fines and tariffs to a foreign reporting agency.
If you are operating an online station, then we would strongly advise you to make the investment, and make your station legal. In the U.S. there may be loopholes, but should you come in contact with an artist from a foreign country, and they are registered with Socscan, BMI, ASCAP, our SoundExchange, you might find yourself in the middle of a litigation that could ultimately shut you down, and cost you thousands of dollars in fines. If you would like information about how to license YOUR internet station, contact us.
Finally, when you support a ministry like RacManChristianRadio, you help us reach into countries that you may not be able to, and help us cover a growing cost to run and operate our station.
